The president led the main event for the Day of the Veteran and the Fallen in the Malvinas War
The president Javier Milei led the main event this Wednesday, April 2, for the Day of the Veteran and the Fallen in the Malvinas War, marking 43 years since the military conflict. The ceremony took place starting at 9:00 at the cenotaph in Plaza San Martín, in the Retiro neighborhood of Buenos Aires.
Government authorities, military forces, and numerous war veterans specially invited for the tribute attended the event.
Milei began his speech on Malvinas with a strongly critical tone toward previous administrations, especially toward Kirchnerism. "Unfortunately, during the last decades, our sovereign demand for the islands was directly and indirectly harmed by the economic, diplomatic, and military decisions of the political caste."
With that premise, he deepened his stance and stated: "No one can take seriously the claim of a Nation whose leadership is recognized worldwide for corruption and incompetence, and for leading Argentina into the arms of the world's scum."
Continuing, Milei was even more forceful: "We had the perfect recipe for the Malvinas Islands to remain forever in foreign hands."
He then explained the elements of that recipe: "Whoever systematically impoverishes their land and makes common cause with dictators and petty dictators enters any diplomatic negotiation at a disadvantage," to which he added: "Then, if we add the disarmament and demonization of the armed forces..."

Nevertheless, beyond the criticisms, Milei outlined a strategic vision for the future. "We seek to be a power to the point that they want to be Argentine and that it is not necessary to use persuasion or deterrence to achieve it."
This idea connects with his conviction that "the most important vote of all is the one made with the feet," and that's why "we hope that the Malvinas residents will one day choose to vote with their feet for us."
Finally, he summarized his position with an ambitious statement: "We seek to be a power so that the Malvinas residents want to be Argentine."
