President Javier Milei reaffirmed his geopolitical alignment with the United States and praisedDonald Trump's leadership. He also clarified that this stance will not imply a break in trade ties between Argentina and China.
The statements were made during an interview on the streaming channel Neura, after he publicly backed the U.S. operation that led to the capture of former Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro.

Geopolitical alignment and international trade
In response to reports suggesting that his international stance would affect the economic relationship with Beijing, Milei was blunt:"I am not going to break trade ties with China". In that sense, he sought to dispel malicious interpretations about his break with China and distinguished between two levels that are often confused. "I always spoke about a geopolitical alliance, because one thing is geopolitics and then there is the commercial issue".

To reinforce his argument, the head of state recalled that even Washington keeps trade ties with the Asian giant. "In fact, the United States has trade ties with China. That is, that doesn't mean that I am not deeply aligned geopolitically with the United States", he said.
According to Milei, Argentina's strategic alignment with the West was an explicit decision made before he took office. He stated: "We have taken a clear stance since before we were elected, it was part of our electoral platform".
Trump and the new international order
During the interview, Milei praised Trump's role on the global stage and maintained that his leadership is bringing about a change of era. "Trump is redesigning the world order. It stopped being thought of in terms of globalization and started being thought of in terms of geopolitics", he maintained.
Along those lines, he pointed out that the international board is going through a reordering process in which "there are some players that are better positioned than others".

The President considered that one of the central debates of the new geopolitics is the fight against authoritarian regimes. Along those lines, he stated: "Part of the discussion of geopolitics is to put an end to murderous socialism. Call it Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua and another one that will be overcome in the elections, without a doubt".
Venezuela, drug trafficking and terrorism
When referring to U.S. intervention in Venezuela, Milei backed the action by describing the Chavista regime as a dictatorship in office. "It is a terrorist narco-state that exported terrorism", he asserted.
According to his explanation, Maduro's government not only engaged in systematic human rights violations, but also "has financed politicians, has financed journalists, media outlets and businesspeople".

The President also recalled the Venezuelan regime's ties with Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas. He mentioned the strategic role it played for the Cuban intelligence apparatus. He even alluded to specific episodes of violence by pointing out that "of the 40 people who died in the bombing, 32 were Cuban soldiers".
Oil, freedom and human rights
In the face of criticism that attributes U.S. intervention to an alleged interest in Venezuelan oil, Milei questioned the double standard of certain sectors. He stated that "all those who are so worried about Venezuela's oil did not say anything when, for example, Cuba was taking it".
In that context, he quoted a phrase by Venezuelan actress Catherine Fulop, which he described as "a stroke of genius":"I do not care about the oil, I care about getting my freedom back". This acknowledges that the focus of the debate must be on civil rights and not on natural resources.

Finally, he maintained that U.S. action aims to dismantle criminal structures. He stated that: "It implies cutting off the fact that they were using PDVSA's logistics for drug trafficking".
He also denounced the lack of "intellectual honesty" on the part of a segment of the left and recalled the human rights violations in detention centers such as Helicoide. He also mentioned the detention of Argentine gendarme Nahuel Gallo by the Chavista regime.
