Mariana Nannis's legal setback: Claudio Caniggia was acquitted

The court dismissed a contempt complaint against the former player amid his contentious divorce

The endless legal war between Mariana Nannis and Claudio Paul Caniggia added a new chapter. In recent hours, the courts acquitted the former footballer in one of the most recent complaints filed by his ex-partner.

Nannis had accused Caniggia of disobeying a court order after traveling to Paraguay in March without authorization. The information came to light through a news report where their son Alex confirmed the trip, which prompted the complaint before the National Criminal and Correctional Court No. 35, presided over by Dr. Osvaldo Rapa.

On the program DDM (América TV), journalist Martín Candalaft showed live the court document that confirmed Caniggia's acquittal. There, it was detailed that the courts did not find sufficient evidence to support the accusation of disobedience. The release of the document reinforced the defense's argument for the former footballer and left Nannis's complaint without support.

The complaint and the court ruling

According to the filing, Caniggia allegedly left the country on March 27 on a private flight to Paraguay and returned that same night to Buenos Aires. Nannis expanded her complaint on June 6, claiming she did not know her ex-husband's whereabouts and feared for her safety, even expressing the possibility that he might show up at her residence in Spain.

However, the investigation concluded that there was no disobedience. Caniggia argued that the round trip on the same day did not violate any court order. The court accepted this interpretation and issued his acquittal, dismissing the accusation.

"This is one of the many false complaints my ex-wife has made against me after filing for divorce. It's a constant attack and defamation to tarnish my image and obtain a benefit in the property division process," declared Caniggia, also pointing to Nannis's treatment of his current partner, Sofía Bonelli.

A conflict that remains open

The acquittal doesn't mean the end of the legal battle. The main case between Nannis and Caniggia is for sexual abuse, a case that doesn't yet have a trial date. "This is one of the many conflicts that arose in parallel to the main process," Candalaft explained.

The dispute also includes the division of assets and mutual accusations of defamation and extortion. Nannis keeps that she fears for her safety, while Caniggia asserts that everything is part of a strategy to harm him in the media and gain judicial advantages.
