The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, will visit Argentina at the end of the month following an invitation from President Javier Milei

The announcement was made by the Minister of Economy, Luis "Toto" Caputo, who emphasized the good relationship between the current administration and the Fund, following the second review of the agreement concluded at the end of May.

Caputo communicated the visit through a message in which he stated: “I am pleased to announce that at the end of the month we will receive in Argentina the Managing Director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, who will visit our country at the invitation of President Javier Milei.”

In this regard, he described the relationship with the international organization as “excellent” and framed the meeting “within the context of the successful ongoing economic program.”

According to the head of the Treasury, the visit “will allow us to continue deepening the joint work and the support of the IMF to consolidate the progress made in terms of stability and economic growth.”

The official's trip also falls within the bilateral agenda and the continuation of discussions on Argentine economic policy, at a time when the economic team presented the financial program through 2027.

In this context, Caputo and the Secretary of Finance, Federico Furiase, announced the mechanisms planned to meet foreign currency obligations until the end of the presidential term.

As anticipated by the Deputy Minister of Economy, José Luis Daza, this scheme was part of the second review of the agreement with the IMF.

“The financial program for 2026 is absolutely closed, the sources are identified, the last part that was finalized were the guarantees,” the official stated at the time, explaining how the tools were structured to meet external commitments.

The definition of this program was key to completing the oversight phase of the organization, as the economic team had to detail to Georgieva the strategy to meet foreign currency payments.

At the same time, from Milei's government, they highlighted the current state of the relationship with the IMF. Caputo assured that the relationship “could not be better,” and emphasized that recognitions have intensified especially since the beginning of the so-called "Phase 4" of the program, a stage in which the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) began to buy international reserves to strengthen its balance sheet.

In this regard, Georgieva had already expressed her support for the economic direction. “It was a pleasure to have a brief exchange with Luis Caputo in Davos. I praised the solid performance of the Argentine economy and the progress in reserve accumulation,” she posted on the social network X in January, along with an image with the Argentine minister.

The official's response was swift: “Thank you, Kristalina Georgieva. We will continue working to make Argentina great again,” Caputo expressed, reflecting the tone of the bilateral relationship.
