Marco Rubio condemned the murder of Miguel Uribe Turbay and called on Colombia to conduct a swift and transparent investigation
United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, demanded justice after the death of Colombian presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay.
In an official statement, he expressed that "The United States stands in solidarity with his family and the Colombian people, both in mourning and in the demand for justice for those responsible."

Death after two months in critical condition
Uribe Turbay, 38 years old, died early Monday morning at Fundación Santa Fe in Bogotá. The death was a consequence of the wounds sustained in an attack on June 7, during a political event in the Colombian capital.
The candidate was shot several times, one of them in the head. He remained in critical condition for more than two months, with brief periods of improvement that allowed the start of a neurorehabilitation phase. However, a hemorrhage in the central nervous system worsened his health in recent days.

Messages of support and condolences
Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, also called for a swift and transparent investigation, describing the incident as a political assassination.
Uribe's wife, María Claudia Tarazona, posted an emotional message on social media, expressing gratitude for the love they shared and promising to care for their children. Uribe leaves behind a young son and three teenage daughters whom he had embraced as his own.

The attack and the investigations
The attack took place on June 7 at a rally in Bogotá. A 15-year-old hitman shot him three times. Authorities detained six suspects, including Elder José Arteaga Hernández, alias "El Costeño," identified as the logistical coordinator of the attack.
The Colombian police are investigating the possible involvement of the Segunda Marquetalia guerrilla dissidents, led by Iván Márquez. Although Márquez and his second-in-command, alias Zarco Aldinever, are suspected to have died, this information has not been confirmed.
A crime that shakes Colombian politics
The death of Uribe Turbay has caused shock in Colombia and in the international community. The call from Marco Rubio and senior U.S. officials seeks to press for a thorough investigation to identify and punish those responsible for this political attack.
