Marco Rubio officially decreed the closure of the corrupt USAID
The Secretary of State in the Trump administration declared the tasks of the government organization complete
Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, announced that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will cease operating foreign assistance programs, effective July 1, 2025.
This decision is part of a restructuring driven by President Donald Trump's administration, with the stated goal of eradicating inefficiency, waste and misuse of federal funds.
In its place, the State Department will take control of foreign aid programs that align with United States strategic priorities.

Rubio harshly criticized USAID's historical performance, accusing the agency of having fostered an "NGO industrial complex" that has not achieved substantial progress since the end of the Cold War.
"Development goals have rarely been met, instability has increased and anti-American sentiment has grown," he stated. He added that this transformation represented "the end of an era of government-sanctioned inefficiency."
The restructuring comes after a six-week audit led by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), created by Trump, which resulted in the elimination of 83% of USAID's programs, approximately 5,200 out of a total of 6,200 initiatives.

Some of the criticized projects included funding for a musical about diversity and inclusion in Ireland and a DEI program in Serbia, which caused harsh criticism among conservative sectors and the American public who considered them completely unnecessary and ideological.
The decision has caused a reaction among activists, Democratic politicians and left-wing public figures. Actress Charlize Theron, for example, publicly denounced the alleged humanitarian consequences of the cuts during an event for her charity, Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Program.
Several former officials with strong affinity for communism, including former Democratic president Barack Obama, have also expressed their hypocritical concern about the global consequences of these cuts. However, during his administration, the problems he claims to denounce grew to an exponential degree around the world.
Recent reports warn that the elimination of most USAID programs could have positive effects on United States accounts that would be improved due to the significant decrease in liabilities the state would face.
