Matías Rojas, sidelined by Gallardo at River, is very close to leaving for the MLS.
The Paraguayan, who arrived as a star signing in January, did not manage to adapt, suffered constant injuries, and is being sought after by clubs from American soccer
In the January 2025 transfer window, River made a significant investment and added seven new signings. Some returning players, such as Lucas Martínez Quarta, Enzo Pérez, Sebastián Driussi, and Gonzalo Montiel, along with the arrival of Kevin Castaño, quickly adapted to Marcelo Gallardo's approach and secured a place as starters. However, not all of them had the same fortune: two signings were left out by the coach.
One of them was Gonzalo Tapia, who has already left for São Paulo, and the other is Matías Rojas. The Paraguayan midfielder arrived as a free agent from Inter Miami, after being sought by both River and Boca, but he chose the Millonario. His time at Núñez, however, was marked by injuries and a lack of continuity, which led him to be included on the list of "excluded" by Gallardo in the second half of the year.

In this context, his departure could be decided in the coming hours. Portland Timbers, from MLS, have shown interest in his services and have already started talks with the player and his representatives, although they haven't yet formalized negotiations with River.
The deal would take place through a mutually agreed contract termination, which would allow the club to retain part of his salary as compensation and make it easier for the midfielder to continue his career abroad.
His numbers with the Millonario
In eight months at River, Rojas played only 8 matches (none as a starter), accumulated 148 minutes on the field, scored one goal (a 1-1 draw with Platense in the first round of the Apertura), and suffered three muscle injuries that affected his performance.

Now, his future seems to be heading toward the United States, in a new attempt to regain prominence.
