The Colombian forward has given his approval to a contract with the Mexican club and, if they pay the release clause, he will leave before the end of the year

Miguel Ángel Borja is entering the final stage of his time at River. The Colombian forward has lost prominence in Marcelo Gallardo's team in recent months and is in the last year of his contract, with no signs of renewal from either the club or the player.

So far, his departure was expected to take place in December 2025, but the scenario could move forward. In the midst of the Club World Cup, Borja has just accepted a contract offer from Tigres of Mexico.

The offer includes his immediate addition to the Nuevo León team, but River is demanding payment of the release clause, which is currently 4 million dollars. If Tigres decides to pay that amount, the Colombian will leave the Núñez club in this transfer window and will join the team managed by Guido Pizarro.

If completed, it will be Borja's first experience in Liga MX, after a career that includes stints at Cúcuta, Deportivo Cali, Livorno, Olimpo, Atlético Nacional, Palmeiras, Junior, and River, among others. The agreement with the player is already finalized; only a formal understanding between both institutions remains.

It is worth noting that the Colombian's release clause recently dropped from 10 to the aforementioned 4 million dollars, which facilitated negotiations with the Mexican club. If the move doesn't materialize now, the forward would leave as a free agent at the end of the year.

Borja's cycle at River and his 2025

After four seasons at the club, Miguel Borja has 136 appearances, with 60 goals and 9 assists. So far in 2025, he has 6 goals and 2 assists in 25 matches. His last goal was over a month ago, on May 15, in the 6-2 win over Independiente del Valle in the Copa Libertadores. The Colombian's departure would mark the end of a highly productive cycle in Núñez.
