President Javier Milei celebrated the recognition of the Venezuelan opposition leader, a symbol of the fight for freedom against Nicolás Maduro's regime

President Javier Milei congratulated María Corina Machado, opposition leader to Nicolás Maduro's regime in Venezuela, after it was announced that she was awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.

"My congratulations for this recognition, more than deserved for your enormous fight for the brave defense of freedom and democracy," wrote the Argentine president on his social media. He added: "Thank you for the inspiration with which you illuminate the world by fighting against Venezuela's narco-dictatorship."

Milei's message reinforces his alignment with the democratic leaders of the West and his firm stance against the region's authoritarian regimes, particularly Maduro's, whom he has repeatedly described as a "criminal dictatorship sustained by drug trafficking."

International recognition for Machado

The Norwegian Nobel Committee justified the selection of Machado for her "tireless work in favor of the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and her fight to achieve a just and peaceful transition to democracy."

The organization highlighted that the leader "has never faltered in her resistance to the militarization of the country" and that her leadership "has unified the opposition around the demand for free elections and a representative government."

The committee also emphasized that "she has demonstrated that the tools of democracy are also tools of peace," and that her figure "embodies the hope for a different future, with guaranteed rights and respected freedoms."

Political support from Argentina

The recognition of María Corina Machado caused a wave of support among Argentine leaders who share Milei's vision regarding the defense of freedom and republican values.

The Minister of Security and senatorial candidate, Patricia Bullrich, stated: "In Venezuela there is a dictatorship in every sense of the word, and there is a strong, brave, and determined woman who confronts Maduro's regime and fights for the freedom of all Venezuelans."

In the same vein, Diego Santilli criticized Kirchnerist sectors that downplay the Venezuelan situation: "While candidate Jorge Taiana defends Maduro's dictatorship, the world recognizes a brave woman who risks her life for democracy."

Former president Mauricio Macri also joined in the greetings: "Rarely has someone been so well chosen to represent peace. Today more than ever, my heart is with Corina and with the beloved Venezuelan people."

Milei and the democratic axis in the region

The Argentine President's congratulations not only celebrate an individual recognition, but also reaffirm the political axis led by Milei together with the governments that defend freedom and Western values.

His message to María Corina Machado summarizes the Argentine position in this new stage: to support without ambiguity those who confront dictatorships, to promote democracy, and to denounce the crimes of authoritarian regimes in Latin America.
