The announced rate places Argentina as the country with the lowest homicide level in Latin America
The government of Javier Milei announced on Tuesday a new decrease in the homicide rate during 2025, which stood at 3.7 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, while simple robberies and aggravated robberies recorded a 20.8% drop compared with 2024.
The announcement was made during a press conference held by the National Security Minister, Alejandra Monteoliva, in which Cabinet Chief Manuel Adorni also took part. In that context, the official provided details on the provisional statistics, which are awaiting the final report from the National Criminal Information System (SNIC), scheduled for March.
Monteoliva indicated that the indicators presented are among the lowest of recent years. In that regard, she recalled that in December 2023 the homicide rate was 4.4 per 100,000 inhabitants, a figure that declined during 2024 and that in 2025 once again consolidated the downward trend.
“The year 2025 closed with a rate of 3.7 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants. If we compare the number of lives from 2023 to date, there are 392 lives, homicides that did not occur. The figure is essential because every life counts”, the minister emphasized during her presentation.

The Security Ministry also stressed that the decrease represents a year-on-year drop of 5.6% and a cumulative reduction of 17% over the course of two years. In absolute terms, they indicated that the difference is equivalent to more than 300 fewer deaths, since in 2023 there had been 2,047 cases recorded, while in 2025 the figure fell to 1,705.
According to the information provided, the indicator reached for the second consecutive year the lowest value since the early 2000s, a relevant figure within the historical analysis.
During the conference, in which Security Secretary Martín Ferlauto and National Director of Criminal Statistics Marco González also participated, charts were displayed that show a fluctuation in the evolution of crime. These charts show high peaks between 2013 and 2014, during the government of Cristina Kirchner.
According to the report presented, 70% of the reduction in homicides was attributed to the effects of the 90-10 Plan. According to the official data, this strategy focused on the jurisdictions where historically the largest number of crimes had been recorded. As a result, the area that concentrates 90% of homicides was reduced to 0.8% of the national territory, going from 193 municipalities in 2023 to 180 in 2025.

The Flag Plan
Another of the highlighted programs was the Flag Plan, which operates in the city of Rosario. The minister indicated that this initiative, promoted together with her predecessor Patricia Bullrich, aimed to reinforce the presence of federal forces in critical areas. According to the figures presented, homicides in the monitored areas decreased by 22% compared with 2024, while the total for the first two years of intervention showed a 70% reduction.
The announced rate places Argentina as the country with the lowest homicide level in Latin America, a region that represents 9% of the world's population but concentrates 35% of global homicides. At the same time, Monteoliva stated that 15 of the 24 provinces “improved their rates” during the last year.
In parallel, the survey also reflected a decline in simple and aggravated robberies. During 2025, the rate stood at 798 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, compared with 1,007 recorded in 2024 and 996 in 2023, which resulted in a 20.8% drop.
