Meanwhile, the Ministry of Human Capital highlighted a significant improvement in poverty levels

Poverty once again showed a significant drop in Argentina thanks to the success of the economic program of the Government of Javier Milei, based on macroeconomic reordering, the sharp reduction of inflation and fiscal balance.
This was reported by the Ministry of Human Capital, led by Sandra Pettovello, through an official statement that highlights a sustained downward trend over the last year and a half.
According to the data released, during the third quarter of 2025 poverty stood at 26.9%, which implies a year-on-year reduction of 11.4 percentage points compared to the same period in 2024, when the indicator reached 38.3%.
In parallel, the statement highlighted a relevant improvement in extreme poverty levels. For the third quarter of 2025, extreme poverty was estimated at 6.0%, which represents a year-on-year drop of 3.2 percentage points compared to the 9.2% recorded in the same period of 2024.

The Ministry of Human Capital explicitly pointed out the link between social results and the economic decisions adopted by the current libertarian administration.
“Poverty continues to fall in Argentina, thanks to the economic policies implemented by the government, which have helped reduce inflation and stabilize the economy, in addition to the actions undertaken by the Ministry of Human Capital, focused on the most vulnerable people in the country”, they explained.
The measurement was prepared by the Ministry itself through the National Council for the Coordination of Social Policies (CNCPS), using the microdata from the Permanent Household Survey (EPH) corresponding to the third quarter of 2025, published by INDEC.
The ministry clarified that this is an official estimate based on public statistical information, which makes it possible to anticipate the evolution of social indicators between the semiannual measurements of the statistical agency.

The report also emphasizes that this drop consolidates a downward trend after having reached critical levels following the departure of the Kirchnerist government of Alberto Fernández, which left the country on the brink of the worst crisis in history.
According to official data, the highest peak of poverty was recorded in the first quarter of 2024, when 54.8% of the population was below the poverty line. Since then, the trajectory has been clearly downward, in line with the stabilization of the main macroeconomic variables achieved by Milei's Government.
The Ministry also recalled that INDEC publishes the official poverty measurement twice a year. The latest official record indicated an incidence of 31.6% during the first half of 2025, while the next measurement will be released in the month of March and will correspond to the second half of last year.
“In summary: balancing the macroeconomy, putting a brake on inflation, and focusing transfers on the most vulnerable sectors, in a direct and transparent manner, without intermediaries, is allowing us to continue reducing poverty in Argentina”, the official statement concluded.
