The Argentine president delivered a speech in which he criticized the organization for forgetting its founding purpose
President Javier Milei spoke before the UN General Assembly and reaffirmed the new direction of Argentine foreign policy, focused on the defense of freedom and on international cooperation that respects individual rights.
“In this very assembly, I presented a new direction in foreign policy for Argentina. We stated that a return to the ideas of freedom was imperative, to the important principles that uphold the dignity of life, freedom, and the property of all individuals under the law”," the president said before international representatives.
During his speech, Milei questioned the evolution of the multilateral organization, emphasizing that "the successful United Nations model, which spoke of the need for peace and victory and was founded on the cooperation of nation-states, was replaced by a model of supranational government of international bureaucrats who seek to impose a certain way of life on the citizens of the world."

The president warned about the change in the UN's role, indicating that "this is how we went from an organization that sought to mediate peace among peers to an organization that seeks to decide not only what each nation must do, but also what each individual in the various latitudes of the planet must do."
Despite his criticisms, the head of state clarified that he upholds the founding spirit of the organization, although he rejects regulatory excesses. "We believe in the original purpose of this organization. We believe that there are global problems that require dialogue and international cooperation to be solved. But for that, we must reject these excesses that often accompany noble agendas," he stated from New York.

He also emphasized the consistency of his administration in defending individual, commercial, and natural rights. "As we stated last year, we will never support the curtailment of individual or commercial freedoms, nor the violation of the natural rights of the citizens of member states. During the last year and a half, we have voted accordingly," he assured.
Meanwhile, the president reaffirmed his political connection with Donald Trump and demanded the release of gendarme Nahuel Gallo, who remains kidnapped by Nicolás Maduro's regime in Venezuela.

In the same vein, the head of state also reiterated Argentina's "legitimate and inalienable claim to sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands, South Georgia, South Sandwich Islands, and the surrounding maritime areas, which remain illegally occupied."
Later, Milei contrasted Argentina's economic situation with that of the region, criticizing leftist policies that destroyed the country: "The difference between zero growth and 2% growth in the long term is the difference between stagnation and prosperity. Argentines know a lot about this, being the only country in the region that hasn't grown in the last 15 years."
Finally, he linked development to the defense of property and the free market. "The condition for growth is the sanctity of property and the free market, which is nothing other than the free cooperation among peers, because without property rights there is no saving, without saving or the ability to exchange it freely there is no investment, and without investment, there is no possible growth," the Argentine president concluded.
