Daniel Noboa decreed the suspension of work on April 17 to boost reactivation

President Daniel Noboa signed Executive Decree 598, which suspended the workday on Thursday, April 17, 2025. This measure turns the Easter holiday into a four-day consecutive break across the country. The provision applies to both the public and private sectors, although in the latter case each company may decide how to make up the workday. In the public sector, the highest institutional authority will establish the compensation mechanisms.

With this decision, the holiday will extend from Thursday, April 17 to Sunday, April 20, which boosts domestic tourism and allows greater participation in traditional religious events. Events like the procession of Jesús del Gran Poder in Quito or Cristo del Consuelo in Guayaquil could receive more visitors.

The measure was made official on the eve of the second electoral round on April 13, in which more than 13 million Ecuadorians will go to the polls. Daniel Noboa, the current president, will face the correísta candidate Luisa González, in a contest that will define the country's direction for the next four years.

The extension of the holiday responds not only to a spiritual logic but also an economic one. The boost to the tourism, hotel, and gastronomic sectors could mean a significant economic injection in different regions of the country.

Meanwhile, the socialist proposal of Luisa González hasn't presented concrete measures to stimulate the economy from internal consumption. Her focus has revolved around subsidies and welfare, which raises doubts about its sustainability.

In contrast, Noboa has demonstrated a more balanced strategy. With decisions like this, he combines attention to the people's traditions with incentives for the local economy, without compromising institutional integrity or fiscal discipline.

According to political analyst Marco Espinosa, "these decisions reflect a government that thinks about collective well-being, but with a technical and viable focus. It's not just about giving days off, but about generating economic opportunities." The electoral campaign enters its final stage, and this type of measure allows for practical evaluation of what kind of leadership each candidate offers. Between the populist promise and responsible management, the electorate will have to choose on April 13.

The decision to extend the Easter holiday shows the vision of a government seeking practical solutions. While the opposition offers unclear promises, Noboa responds with actions that benefit the citizen and strengthen the national economic fabric.
