Netflix chose November 6, Stranger Things Dayfor fans, to showcase the first five minutes of the final season. The preview not only brings back the series' darker tone, but also confirms a theory that has been circulating since 2016.
The images shown by the platform reveal that Will Byers never completely escaped the Upside Down. According to the new preview, his connection with Vecna is much deeper and began at the very moment of his disappearance.

How Stranger Things 5 begins
The preview starts with a flashback to the night Will disappears. He is seen running desperately, chased by a Demogorgon, until he falls to the ground. The scene becomes silent and, at that moment, Vecna (Henry Creel) appears.
The creature immobilizes him and inserts an object into his mouth while saying a phrase that sets the tone for the ending. "We're going to do great things together". The sequence confirms that Will was the first direct link between Hawkins and the Upside Down.
Will Byers, the true hidden core of the entire story
According to this new version of events, Will was not just a victim. He was the anchor that allowed Vecna to connect with the real world. The Duffer brothers thus reveal that the character was possessed from the very first minute, which rewrites everything that happened in previous seasons.
The scene, filmed with a darker aesthetic and an almost psychological horror atmosphere, promises a more adult and disturbing ending, very similar to the tone of the first season.
