It's official: Sony and Netflix have closed the exclusivity deal for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for its release on streaming. The film will arrive in theaters first and, after completing its commercial run, it will move to the platform.
The confirmation was announced by Sony Pictures and Netflix, and it was echoed by media outlets specializing in film and business. The agreement consolidates a strategy that both companies have been developing for years.

A two-stage release: theaters first, streaming later
The The Legend of Zelda film will have its debut in theaters as a major blockbuster event. Only afterward will it arrive on Netflix under exclusive conditions.
The theatrical release is scheduled for May 7, 2027. From that point on, Netflix will be the only streaming service that will have it in its catalog.
This move isn't isolated, it is part of a preferential agreement that Sony and Netflix have maintained since 2021. The pact allows Sony to sustain its traditional model: theatrical releases first and a strong second life on streaming.
