OAS: Almagro urges the International Criminal Court to arrest dictator Maduro
The OAS head assured that there are sufficient elements to proceed against Maduro for crimes against humanity
Just days before concluding his term as Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro stated that the International Criminal Court (ICC) already has the necessary evidence to prosecute Nicolás Maduro and the high command of the Venezuelan regime.
"It already has enough elements to induce acts of prosecution for the chain of command of the Venezuelan regime," declared the Uruguayan diplomat in an interview with NTN24, backing his statements with the latest report from the Casla Institute, an organization that systematically documents human rights violations in Venezuela.
Repeated crimes under a systematic pattern
According to Almagro, Maduro's regime engages in a "new sequence" of crimes against humanity, with persistent patterns of torture, forced disappearances, and extrajudicial executions. For the outgoing OAS head, the recent reports and collected evidence should lead to international arrest warrants to ensure justice for the victims of authoritarianism in Venezuela.

"The document demonstrates this new sequence," assured Almagro, emphasizing that the elements gathered by the Casla Institute have already been sent to the ICC for formal evaluation.
A firm stance against authoritarianism
Luis Almagro, who will soon leave his position after nearly ten years at the helm of the OAS, was characterized by an openly critical stance against Nicolás Maduro's regime. On numerous occasions, he denounced the existence of a repressive state, the systematic political persecution, and the destruction of democratic order in Venezuela.

His successor will be Surinamese diplomat Albert Ramdin, who will assume leadership of the hemispheric organization in a context of renewed political tensions in the region.
