According to the Undersecretary of Public Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security, approximately 175,000 people sought employment in the immigration service

A total of 175,000 Americans have applied for jobs at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Tricia McLoughlin, during an interview on The Alex Marlow Show.
McLoughlin described the figure as "astonishing" and stated that it reflects the commitment of many citizens to upholding the law and protecting their communities in the face of the illegal immigration problem. "It's encouraging to see that patriots look beyond the media charade. They want to enforce the law and protect our homeland," she said.
According to the official, these applicants have been motivated by the deterioration the country has experienced over the past four years due to what she described as "the plague of illegal immigration." In that context, McLoughlin emphasized that there is renewed interest in working in immigration law enforcement and strengthening border security.
In addition to the public response, the government is offering significant financial incentives to attract new agents. McLoughlin noted that positions at ICE offer a $50,000 hiring bonus, making the offer an attractive professional opportunity both in terms of social impact and economic benefit.

During the interview, Marlow mentioned that the population of illegal immigrants in the United States could be around 20 million people, to which McLoughlin replied by acknowledging the magnitude of the challenge. "We know we have a mountain ahead of us," she admitted, but assured that concrete steps are being taken to expand ICE's operational capacity.
Congress, she stated, has approved a significant budget allocation within "that great and beautiful bill" that allows for the hiring of more than 10,000 new immigration enforcement officers. So far, according to the official, approximately 5,000 agents have already been hired, and the number is expected to continue rising.
McLoughlin also highlighted the logic of a "virtuous cycle" in the strict enforcement of immigration laws: the more arrests, the more self-deportations increase, as a clear message is sent among immigrants in irregular situations that they face real consequences. "The message will be: 'You will be arrested, there will be consequences, you won't be able to return. So leave now while you have a chance,'" she said.

Regarding the recruitment strategy, McLoughlin explained that DHS is promoting messages focused on patriotism and national pride, with the goal of attracting young people committed to the cause.
She also indicated that part of the campaign is countering media attacks against ICE agents. "We want to revive patriotism and pride in our heritage, and also debunk many of the attacks circulating in the media against our men and women," she assured.
The surge in applications comes at a time when the immigration issue remains one of the most polarizing in American politics, with strong divisions between Democrats and Republicans over how to address border security, the deportation of undocumented immigrants, and the future of the immigration system in general.
