The United States ambassador to Argentina, Peter Lamelas, reaffirmed the strong support of Donald Trump's administration for Javier Milei's government and stated that Washington is willing to support the country "in everything necessary" to achieve its economic development. In his first interview since he took office in Buenos Aires, the American diplomat emphasized that the bilateral relationship goes far beyond a personal affinity between presidents and is based on shared values.
"This is more than a personal relationship. We share the same Western values: democracy, freedom, and a market economy", Lamelas maintained, making clear the strategic alignment between both countries in a regional and global context marked by strong geopolitical tensions.
Explicit political support for Javier Milei's government
During the interview conducted by Infobae, the ambassador celebrated La Libertad Avanza's electoral victory, which he interpreted as a clear sign of change on the part of Argentine society. According to Lamelas, the electoral result reflected that "the Argentine people woke up" after years of policies that failed to generate sustained growth.
However, he stressed the importance of institutional dialogue: "This government has to collaborate with everyone, including governors and those who do not agree." In that regard, he announced that he will travel through different provinces to meet with local leaders and explain the roadmap of the bilateral relationship.

Economic support and key role of the U.S. Treasury
When he was asked about the financial support of the United States for Argentina, Lamelas highlighted the role of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and stated that Washington keeps a firm commitment to the country's stability and growth. "The United States supports Argentina and is going to do everything necessary for it to move forward and develop economically," he assured.
Although he avoided confirming new financial assistance, he made it clear that the White House considers Milei's Argentina a reliable strategic partner in the region.
