In the midst of the wave of summer festivals in Córdoba, La Calera doesn't want to be left behind.
The event, which will take place on February 20 and 21, will bring together about 50,000 people over both nights.
El miércoles se presentó el Festival Nacional del Lomito de La Calera.
The distinctive feature of this festival is that, unlike others that generate expenses for local administrations, it is "self-sustaining", according to the words of the mayor Fernando Rambaldi.
"The idea is to achieve a self-sustaining festival, which is why we charge an affordable general admission fee. We think that nothing is free and I, as mayor, can't take taxpayers' money that is used to fix streets and put it into a festival," he explained during the presentation of the event.
Rambaldi's stance is not accidental, since he is one of the Argentine leaders who is aligned with the policies promoted by President Javier Milei.
In addition to achieving efficiency and reducing spending in the municipality, the leader managed to get the City Council to approve an initiative by his administration to lower taxes on productive activities.
"We are in tune with the new economic and political winds that are blowing in Argentina, which we consider to be correct. We want a smaller, more efficient state, and a dynamic private sector that generates employment and wealth," he stated some time ago.
Public-private coordination has proven to be successful in La Calera. The water park at Laguna Azul serves as an example, since it was granted under concession in December and this summer it has already attracted 1,000 tourists per day.
"Nothing is free"
The Undersecretary in the Culture Directorate of La Calera, Fabián Torres, expressed himself in line with Rambaldi.
El miércoles se presentó el Festival Nacional del Lomito de La Calera.
"The difference compared to other seasons is that today, in order to enter the grounds, people will have to pay an admission fee that is almost a contribution voucher of 9,200 pesos. Many people say "oh, let's go here because it's free." Everyone knows that nothing is free, that someone pays for it. The idea is that, when people see tremendous artists on stage, they feel that it isn't being given away," he said.
The National Lomito Festival in La Calera
The mayor of La Calera indicated that the goal is to place the National Lomito Festival among the main summer festivals in Córdoba.
For this reason, the line-up includes renowned artists, as well as a huge variety of food trucks and attractions for the whole family.
"The challenge for next year, if we really want La Calera and the National Lomito Festival to become one of the major festivals in the province, is to extend the line-up. So for 2026 we are already working so that there won't be two nights, but four nights of festival in the City of La Calera," he said.
