A storm characterized by intense gusts of wind caused various urban damage yesterday in the city of Córdoba and prompted more than 1,400 calls to the emergency line 103 of the municipal Civil Defense Directorate. The gusts resulted in fallen trees, electric poles, detached cables, and roof blow-offs in different areas of the capital. The meteorological phenomenon had been anticipated through a report from the Provincial Hydrometeorological Observatory to alert about the arrival of winds in the urban area.

The balance of the received complaints indicates that 198 calls corresponded to fallen or imminently collapsing columns or poles in public spaces. Additionally, 21 reports of fallen or affected trees, 23 notices of hanging wiring, and 13 incidents related to roof blow-offs in homes were counted. On Agustín Garzón Street in the San Vicente neighborhood, the wind knocked down one of the walls belonging to a soccer school without causing injuries.

Despite the reported material damages, emergency authorities confirmed that there were no casualties or people requiring evacuation or social assistance. The municipal staff provided direct assistance to families affected by the lifting of roofs in their homes. Operational tasks remained active throughout the day yesterday to remove fallen items obstructing pedestrian and vehicular traffic on the streets.

Meteorological measurements and evolution of the storm

The Network of Meteorological Stations of the Civil Defense Directorate measured the speed of the gusts in various strategic sectors of the urban geography. The highest record was detected at the César Romero School in the Sachi neighborhood, where wind speed reached a maximum value of 94.9 km/h. Meanwhile, the CPC Jardín facilities recorded gusts of 90 km/h, and in the vicinity of CPC Empalme, the instruments marked a speed of 80.6 km/h.

The sensors located near the Catholic University of Córdoba recorded speeds of 76 km/h during the peak of the climatic phenomenon. Likewise, the station situated at the intersection of Avenida Circunvalación and Santa Ana recorded 73.4 km/h, while at CPC Monseñor Pablo Cabrera, 69.8 km/h was measured. The geographical dispersion of the measurements explains the number of interventions that operational teams had to deploy in different neighborhoods of Córdoba Capital.

The phenomenon of intense wind maintained high values for much of the afternoon yesterday until a progressive reduction in gust speed began at 5 PM. The technical teams from the municipality kept permanent monitoring of the environmental conditions in the city to coordinate pending work. Municipal crews continued working in public spaces to normalize circulation and neutralize risks arising from damaged infrastructure.
