The ultra-Kirchnerist governor of La Rioja, Ricardo Quintela, sparked major controversy after calling for a coup d'état and the overthrow of the Government of Javier Milei.
In his coup-mongering statements, the provincial leader asserted that the current libertarian administration must not complete its constitutional term, in an institutional warning of great seriousness.
During an analysis of the country's political and economic direction, Quintela stated forcefully: “We have to assume that historic responsibility quickly”. In that context, he went even further by declaring: “This Government can't reach December 10, 2027”, in a direct reference to the end of the presidential term established by the Constitution.

His statements imply a frontal challenge to democratic continuity, since they suggest the need to interrupt the term before the legally established deadline. The governor justified that stance with a false and alarmist diagnosis about the country's future, stating: “If we get there like this, we will arrive with a totally destroyed, surrendered country”.
In a conversation with ultra-K journalist Gustavo Silvestre on Radio 10, Quintela deepened his criticism by warning of an alleged loss of territorial sovereignty. According to him, there would be a supposed handover of land in Patagonia into foreign hands, something completely false and unproven.
