Ritondo described Independiente's elimination by CONMEBOL as an 'absolute injustice'

The Pro leader criticized the ruling that left Rojo out of the Sudamericana and targeted the different sanctions imposed on Chilean clubs

In the context of the Buenos Aires legislative elections, Cristian Ritondo, national deputy and a figure close to the Board of Directors of Independiente, spoke out about the controversial ruling by CONMEBOL that left Rojo  eliminated from the Copa Sudamericana, describing it as an "absolute injustice."

After casting his vote, Ritondo stated: "I believe what CONMEBOL did is an absolute injustice. This is the first time the one who causes trouble on the field is rewarded." He also defended the club's conduct: "Independiente has demonstrated its behavior both on and off the field."

The official also criticized the Chilean teams and the disturbances in their stadiums, which according to him did not receive sanctions: "What Chilean fans do is a disaster. I don't understand what the attitude is and what was rewarded."

CONMEBOL's sanction left Independiente out of the competition, directly qualified U de Chile for the quarterfinals, and established that the Avellaneda team  must play seven home matches behind closed doors and another seven away matches without fans in future competitions, in addition to paying a  financial fine.

Ritondo's position aligns with the club's statement signed by president Néstor Grindetti and general secretary  Daniel Seoane, in which they described the ruling as an unfair punishment that ignores the regulations and suggested favoritism toward clubs organized as sports corporations.

The situation even prompted the  intervention of AFA president, Claudio Tapia, who met with Grindetti in Ezeiza with the aim of mediating in the conflict.

How the issue continues

Independiente's management, led by Néstor Grindetti, together with the club's lawyers, are already preparing an appeal. The main objective is to overturn CONMEBOL's decisionand postpone the quarterfinal match until the situation is solved. If this can't be achieved, Rojo will at least try to reduce the financial and sporting sanctions as much as possible.
