Santiago Lencina became one of the most outstanding revelations for River during 2025, and the club decided to move quickly to secure his stay. After several weeks of negotiations, the midfielder from Chaco agreed to renew his contract, dispelling any doubts about his future.
The process accelerated in recent days, after his absence in the match against Independiente Rivadavia for the Copa Argentina sparked speculation. Beyond that, the management had already been working on his continuity.
According to César Luis Merlo, Lencina will sign a new deal with River until December 2029 and his release clause will rise to 100 million euros, a record figure for his age, joining other cases such as Dadín, Rivero or Woiski.

With this agreement, the Núñez club seeks to avoid what happened with other gems from its youth academy who left prematurely, as was the case with Franco Mastantuono and "Diablito" Echeverri. Pending the official announcement, it is expected that the player will sign in the coming days and the club will announce it on its social media.
Regarding personal statistics, Lencina, who debuted in August 2024, has 20 appearances and three goals wearing the Millonario jersey. Of those matches, 19 correspond to the current season, in which he excelled with a brace in the 4-0 win over Instituto in Córdoba and scored another goal in the 2-0 victory against San Martín de San Juan.
At just 20 years old, the playmaker earned a place in the first team thanks to his technique, vision and ability to adapt to different roles in midfield. His renewal represents not only a sporting commitment but also a sign of River's intention to retain its most promising talents for a longer period before they move abroad.
