Russia launched a massive combined attack with missiles and drones against Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine during the early hours and the morning of this Saturday, leaving at least two dead, dozens injured, and severe damage to the capital's energy infrastructure. The offensive, one of the most intense in recent weeks, lasted for almost 10 hours and affected large residential areas.
According to Ukrainian authorities and monitoring channels, the attack began shortly before 2:00 a.m. with the launch of Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, Iskander ballistic missiles, and Kalibr cruise missiles.
Subsequently, waves of drones continued attacking the city throughout the night, keeping the air raid alert active until after 11:00 a.m. Around noon, a new series of drones forced the sirens to be reactivated for approximately one hour.
Kyiv residents reported explosions at different times in the morning. "We thought the night was over, but at eight we heard a very loud explosion." Later it was confirmed thata missile had struck a nearby building, leaving streets covered with debris and broken glass.
The authorities reported thatdrones and missile debris fell on apartment buildings in several districts of the city, causing fires that spread across several floors.
In the Dniprovskyi district, an 18-story residential building suffered serious damage, and it is believed that one person was trapped under the rubble. Kyiv's mayor,Vitali Klitschko, indicated that emergency teams were continuing to work at at least five locations in the city.
According to Kyiv police,at least 32 people were injured in the capital. An elderly man died in the Dniprovskyi district, while his wife remains in critical condition. The Interior Minister,Ihor Klymenko, also confirmed another fatality in Bila Tserkva, in the Kyiv region.

The attack had a significant impact on basic services. Klitschko reported thatapproximately one third of the capital was left without heating, which affects about 4,000 residential buildings.
Power and water outages were also recorded in several neighborhoods. The situation worsens the blackouts that Kyiv has been suffering for two months following previous attacks against energy infrastructure, which leave many households without electricity for long hours each day.
Explosions were heard both in the capital and in nearby towns. In Brovary, about 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) northeast of Kyiv, power outages were reported. In the city, fires were recorded in the Holosiivskyi district, falling debris in Obolonskyi and Desnianskyi, and damage to buildings in the Shevchenkivskyi district.

The offensive also had repercussions outside Ukraine.Poland mobilized military aircraft during the night as a precautionary measure, and the airports of Rzeszow and Lublin, in the southeast of the country, were temporarily closed after Russian air activity near the border.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia used around 500 drones and 40 missiles in the attack anddescribed it as a direct response to the diplomatic efforts led by the United States to end the war.
In a message on social media,he urged Washington and European countries to increase pressure on Moscow, noting that even the Christmas period has been turned into a phase of destruction.
The attack comes on the eve of a key meeting between Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump, scheduled for December 28 in Florida. According to the Ukrainian leader, the meeting will address issues such as security guarantees, economic cooperation, territorial control, and the situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
