Argentine basketball player Luca Vildoza, currently playing for Virtus Bologna, was at the center of a scandal in Italy after being detained along with his wife, Serbian volleyball player Milica Tasic, due to an altercation with Italian Red Cross personnel in a public area.
The incident took place on the night of Wednesday, October 15, near the PalaDozza stadium, shortly after Virtus's victory over Monaco in the EuroLeague. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 30-year-old Mar del Plata native allegedly reacted with gestures and words toward a stopped ambulance, and later allegedly blocked its path with abrupt maneuvers. The situation escalated until, when both vehicles stopped, Vildoza allegedly grabbed a nurse by the neck, while his wife allegedly intervened by pulling her hair.
The confrontation was witnessed by a carabinieri patrol, which intervened immediately and took the couple to the local police station. The assaulted woman, 55 years old, was treated at a hospital and discharged a few hours later with a minor diagnosis. Both she and another volunteer filed a complaint for injuries, and the player faces charges for assaulting healthcare personnel.
