The Argentine automotive market closed 2025 with record numbers and a clear change in preferences. SUVs established themselves as one of the major sales drivers.
According to data from ACARA, one out of every three new cars registered in the country belongs to this segment. The trend marks a break with the historical hegemony of hatchbacks.

A record year for registrations
According to the report released by ACARA, in 2025 612,291 vehicles were registered. The figure represents growth of 47.8% compared with 2024.
This is the sector's best performance in the last seven years and the highest volume since 2018.
More imports and strong growth from China
Another key data point in the automotive landscape is the weight of imported vehicles. In 2025 they accounted for 60% of registrations, compared with 40% from domestic production.

Brazil remained the main source, while models from China gained ground and exceeded 25,000 units registered during the year.
How preferences by vehicle type changed
Passenger cars still lead the market with close to 70% of the total. However, their share has been declining in the face of the growth of other segments.

The most pronounced growth is that of SUVs, which went from representing just 8% of the market in 2015 to 35% in 2025. Pickups also gained prominence and rose from 18% to 26% of the total market.
What is happening with commercial vehicles
The heavy commercial vehicle segment showed strong concentration. In 2025, heavy trucks accounted for 52% of the total.
This reflects a structural change compared with the more diversified offering that existed a decade ago.

Powertrains: less gasoline and more hybrids
Gasoline-powered vehicles keep losing share and dropped from 83% to 73% in ten years. Diesel remains stable at around 22%.
Hybrids and electric vehicles continue to grow and already account for 4.6% of the market, while CNG keeps a marginal share.

Leading brands and financing
The ACARA report shows changes among brands. Toyota gained share, while Ford and General Motors lost ground.
In addition, financing returned to levels similar to 2015, with the savings plan as the main channel and a greater role for the brands' own finance companies.
