For the first time, Argentina will export Coquena butternut squash to Uruguay, after the deregulation promoted this year by the Government of Javier Milei enabled the export of this variety.
The protagonist of this milestone is the Chaco producer Walter Detzel, who will send a total of 84 tons of the product to Montevideo this week. Originally from Juan José Castelli and a producer of watermelons, melons, and squash, he has been insisting for years on advancing commercial agreements with Uruguayan buyers.
According to his recollection, he had been negotiating for three years "but we couldn't finalize the sales due to so many regulations we had to comply with in order to export." The simplification of procedures and the removal of administrative barriers completely changed that scenario: "With everything simplified, now it's much more agile and faster," he stated.

The producer had already made headlines weeks ago after achieving the first export of watermelons to Uruguay, an achievement he himself linked to the reforms promoted by the Milei Government. In fact, it was he who, in February, wrote to the Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation, Federico Sturzenegger, to request the opening of the fruit market. That initiative led to a series of official measures that now make this second step possible.
