Two young men have been charged with simple homicide as co-perpetrators and face actual prison sentences

This Monday, proceedings began in the Criminal and Correctional Court of Río Cuarto for the trial regarding the homicide of Jesús Buffarini, which occurred in April 2024. The 22-year-old victim died after being beaten outside a nightclub in the town of General Cabrera, Córdoba. The incident led to a judicial investigation that resulted in charges against two suspects.
In the oral and public trial, Federico Mellano and Federico Cabrillana, both 24 years old, are appearing as defendants, identified as co-perpetrators of the crime. The prosecution keeps that the accused acted with homicidal intent, without provocation or legitimate defense. If the court confirms this hypothesis, the young men could receive custodial sentences.
During the first hearing, the first witnesses were presented, including four people who witnessed the attack. Between 15 and 20 more witnesses are expected to testify in the coming days. The trial will continue on October 14, 24, 25, and 28, with the possibility of introducing new evidence and testimonies.

A case that shocked General Cabrera
According to the judicial investigation, the assault occurred in the early hours of April 21, after an argument inside the nightclub. Buffarini was removed from the club by security staff and, a few minutes later, was intercepted by at least two individuals in front of his home. There, he received multiple blows that caused fatal injuries and resulted in death by neck fracture.
The incident had a significant impact on the community of General Cabrera, where family members and neighbors held demonstrations demanding justice. The plaintiff, led by attorney Victoria Albert, indicated that the involvement of a third party could emerge during the course of the trial. The hearings will continue until the end of the month and will be attended by the victim's family members.
It should be noted that the start of the judicial process was rescheduled in July due to the traffic accident suffered by Mario Buffarini, father of the deceased young man. The man was injured on National Route 158 and, after his recovery, was able to attend this new judicial stage. The court must determine criminal responsibility and decide on any potential sentences.
