The reboot of The X-Files will revolve around two FBI agents with opposing profiles. One of the leading roles will be played by Danielle Deadwyler.
The plot will follow the duo after they are assigned to a forgotten division that investigates inexplicable phenomena. The approach will seek to update the original universe without losing the conspiratorial and paranormal essence.
The series will have Jennifer Yale as showrunner, who will also be an executive producer along with Carter and Coogler. The goal is to relaunch the franchise with a more diverse cast and a contemporary perspective.

According to reports in 2023, Chris Carter had held conversations with Coogler to "reinvent" the story. Months later, the director confirmed his interest in carrying out a new version.
It was even reported that Coogler spoke with Gillian Anderson, remembered for her role as Dana Scully. For now, there is no official confirmation about her participation.
