The antisemite accused of attacking Michelle Iman Schmukler and her eight-month-old baby was arrested this Thursday for attempted homicide. The case, which shocked society, was assigned to prosecutor Carlos Stornelli, who ordered the arrest of the assailant after the violent episode in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Palermo was released.
The detainee was identified as Carlos Andrés Corera, a neighbor of the victim. The assailant had thrown an iron bar at the young mother while insulting her for being Jewish, in an act of hatred that was recorded by the complainant herself on her social media. Although there was a court order prohibiting him from approaching the family, Corera continued living in the same building.
In recent hours, personnel from the Argentine National Gendarmerie carried out his arrest, complying with the order issued by Stornelli. Security Minister Patricia Bullrich confirmed the operation through her social media: “When you fight for things, you achieve them. Great work by prosecutor Stornelli in this case: the assailant, imprisoned for attempted homicide. Whoever commits a crime, pays for it,” wrote the minister.

The incident had occurred on Saturday at noon, when Schmukler was with her baby in the patio of her home. From the apartment above, her neighbor began shouting antisemitic insults at her: “Jew, Jew, now you have a Jewish child, how disgusting,” the victim recounted in a video posted on her Instagram account.
The situation escalated when the man threw a metal object into the patio, which fortunately did not hit anyone. Michelle's husband, Idán, reported the incident to the police, but the institutional response was limited, according to the couple. “I'm afraid for my children, for my safety. This man is still in the building and we don't know whom to turn to,” the woman said in her message, which went viral and sparked a wave of support on social media.

Following the public reaction, Patricia Bullrich and congresswoman Sabrina Ajmechet contacted the family and offered support. The minister promoted the progress of the case and the intervention of prosecutor Stornelli. The City Security Ministry later confirmed that a permanent police presence was assigned to the complainant's residence and that the proceedings were referred to Internal Affairs to investigate the initial police response.
Finally, the assailant was arrested for attempted homicide, closing a week of anguish for the attacked family and setting an important precedent against antisemitism.
