Just over two months after the serious disturbances recorded at the Libertadores de América stadium during the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana round of 16 between IndependienteandUniversidad de Chile, the National Ministry of Security has imposed a ban on attending sporting events in Argentina for more than 100 fans of the Chilean team identified as responsible for the incidents.
The resolution, published this Thursday in the Official Gazette, will remain in effect for an indefinite period and is based on the acts of violence that resulted in injuries, destruction, and arrests both inside and outside the stadium.
El incidente originalmente tuvo más de 300 detenidos
According to the official document, the conflict began before the start of the match, when a group of Universidad de Chile supporters, located in the upper South stand, set fire to a plastic seat, an act confirmed by the First Police Station of Avellaneda and APreViDe, the agency responsible for security in Buenos Aires stadiums.
During the match, security cameras recorded damage to restrooms and areas of the stadium, as well as objects being thrown at the home crowd, which triggered a confrontation with Independiente supporters and left several injured.
Once the match ended due to force majeure, the violence continued in the vicinity of the stadium, as visiting fans attempted to attack the police and the local public, carrying sticks and metal objects. The intervention of security forces made it possible to identify all those involved, whose names were included in the ministerial resolution.

The text emphasizes that the actions of the group "created a context of extreme violence that endangered the physical integrity of those present," which is why the sanction was applied. It should be noted that Aprevide had already imposed a preventive attendance ban until the judicial cases were solved.
Meanwhile, Prosecutor's Office No. 4 of Avellaneda, headed by Mariano Zitto, is proceeding with cases for "aggravated assault and resistance to authority" and other criminal investigations due to the number of victims affected.
The Ministry highlighted that the measure seeks to "guarantee order and security at football events," reinforcing the prevention policy in response to acts of violence in stadiums.
It should be clarified that, due to the incidents, CONMEBOL decided to disqualify Independiente from the competition, allowing Universidad de Chile to automatically advance to the next round, where they later eliminated Alianza Lima and reached the semifinals, where they will host Lanús this Thursday, although due to the imposed sanction they will not be allowed to have spectators either at home or away in upcoming international matches.
