Trump loses confidence in Iran, and Israel's attack seems imminent

After several actions by the Iranian regime that undermined trust, the U.S. president stated that there is no longer much expectation for the signing of an agreement

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, publicly expressed his growing skepticism regarding the possibility of reaching a new nuclear agreement with Iran, stating that he has "much less confidence" in achieving a deal than he did a few months ago.

These statements were made in the context of an interview with The New York Post and in the first episode of the podcast "Pod Force One," released on Wednesday.

"Something has happened to them. I'm much less confident that an agreement will be reached. I don't see the same enthusiasm on their part," Trump said, referring to Iranian authorities. Despite the loss of confidence, the president made it clear that under no circumstances will he allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. "If they make a deal, they won't have a nuclear weapon. If they don't make a deal, they won't have one either," he asserted.

He added that he prefers to solve the conflict without resorting to war, "without people dying," but warned that Iran would be making a grave mistake if it decides not to negotiate. However, in recent hours, an account associated with Iranian authorities on Twitter published a provocative message stating: "We will negotiate when we want to."

The United States and Iran, countries that were allies in the past but have been at odds for more than 40 years, have held five rounds of indirect negotiations since April with the mediation of Oman.

The objective of these talks has been to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. According to Iranian officials, a new round of talks was expected on Sunday, although Trump announced that it will be on Thursday. The Omani mediator, meanwhile, has not issued any official comments on the matter.

However, the tension between both countries has increased considerably. On Wednesday, Iran warned that it would attack United States military bases in the Middle East in the event of armed conflict, reflecting a hardening of its position.

Meanwhile, the military forces of Israel, as well as United States and British representations, have adopted a state of maximum alert in anticipation of possible developments that may occur in the coming hours. Israel's Armed Forces have indicated that in the face of the Iranian threat, they will launch an intense bombardment on Iran's nuclear facilities.

In recent minutes as well, the United States began withdrawing its diplomatic personnel from Iraq and other locations in the region due to increased tensions with Iran.

Additionally, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), an opposition organization based in Europe, recently stated that the Iranian regime has spent at least 2 billion dollars on the development of its nuclear program over the past three decades. This figure would even exceed Iran's total oil export revenues since 1979, estimated at 1.5 billion dollars.

The NCRI also revealed the existence of a covert program called "Plan Kavir," which would consist of the continued clandestine development of nuclear weapons. According to the opposition group, this plan includes at least four locations situated in Semnan province, a militarized area in north-central Iran.

Steve Witkoff, Trump's special envoy for the Middle East, has been leading the indirect talks with Tehran for months, achieving some significant progress, but without the desired results.

Witkoff even suggested at one point allowing Iran to continue enriching uranium for civilian purposes, a proposal similar to the agreement signed in 2015 under the Obama administration, from which Trump withdrew the United States three years later.

However, both the State Department and the White House have maintained a firm position of not allowing any type of uranium enrichment by the Iranian regime.

Regarding possible external influences, Trump ruled out that China is behind the hardening of the Iranian stance. "Maybe they just don't want to make a deal. What can I say?" he commented.
