In an incident of extreme institutional gravity, groups of union members belonging to the State Workers Association (ATE) and the Association of Professionals and Technicians (APyT), together with left-wing activists, forcibly took over the offices of the Medical Directorate at Hospital Garrahan, one of the country's and the entire region's most important pediatric centers.
During the incursion, staff members were taken hostage inside the facilities, preventing the normal operation of administrative areas and creating an atmosphere of tension and fear among workers. The violent and extortionate occupation disrupted the coordination work of medical and administrative services, which are essential for the care of thousands of children.
According to authorities, the attack originated as a reaction to the decision by the Board of Directors to apply salary deductions to those who did not report to work during the recent political strikes called by the unions.

The measure is in line with current regulations and responds to the attendance policy that applies to all hospital staff. However, the unions replied with an extortionate maneuver that made it clear their demands go beyond labor issues and are part of a political pressure strategy.
“The problem is political: a left-wing faction is trying to impose its partisan interests within the hospital, putting the care of thousands of children at risk” stated hospital management. In the statement released on social media, they described the events as “inadmissible” and emphasized that “we are not going to allow pressure tactics, violence, and union coercion to become a standard operating method”.

Despite the chaos caused by the violent demonstrators, the hospital continues to operate normally in medical and care areas. Hospital management confirmed that the budget is guaranteed, that the performance bonuses for staff remain in place, and that all infrastructure projects, equipment, and technology, totaling more than 30 billion pesos (66,138,678 pounds), are progressing with their own funding, the result of efficient and transparent management.
Finally, in the statement, they emphasized that the hospital “is not a space for activism nor a union spoils”, and that its mission will continue to be defended: to guarantee excellent medical care for children throughout the country, above any political or union interest.
