The tension between the Argentine Football Association (AFA) and the Government keeps adding new chapters after the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Professional League. In the midst of the legal and political dispute involving the authorities of the organization, Fabián Berlanga, president of Vélez, left open the possibility of completely halting Argentine football.
"We do not rule out taking other types of measures, such as stopping football if necessary. We will take whatever measures we have to take", warned the executive, who considered that there is a direct offensive against the leadership of Argentine football.
Berlanga went further and spoke of an alleged "war against football". "A war is being declared against football that has nothing to do with it. They want to impose SADs and the members have already made their position clear", he stated, in reference to the debate on sports corporations.

In the same vein, he questioned what he defined as an unjustified attack: "I do not understand why they attack football. Football creates jobs, now AFA has launched the streaming platform. We manage the rights and we are not overwhelmed by companies. It seems that there is someone who doesn't understand this and is waging a battle that seems totally unfair to me".
He also denounced an alleged persecution of the main executives of the parent organization. "Tapia, Toviggino, and Malaspina have been harmed. It is unfair what is happening. It has been demonstrated that they have nothing. Everything is up to date", he stated. He added: "Now we have found out through the media that they authorized Tapia to travel to CONMEBOL. It is very strange".
The Vélez president defended the social and economic role of the clubs and stressed that "everyone is carrying out construction and maintenance work"."We pay taxes on foreign sales, foreign currency flows in, but it seems that this is not taken into account", he asserted. Although he avoided personalizing, he clarified: "I am not talking about any particular government, I am talking about State policies".

In an increasingly tense scenario, Berlanga made it clear that the executives do not rule out taking forceful measures if they consider that the situation warrants it, which could have a full impact on the normal development of the tournaments.
