YPF has completed the largest investment in 50 years at its Plaza Huincul refinery

These works will allow for an increase in the crude oil processing capacity from Vaca Muerta

The company YPF announced the completion of one of the most significant projects of recent decades at its Plaza Huincul refinery, located in the province of Neuquén.

This is a strategic modernization that will increase the crude oil processing capacity from Vaca Muerta, one of the world's main unconventional hydrocarbon fields.

The president and CEO of YPF, Horacio Marín, toured the new facilities of the Industrial Complex and highlighted the magnitude of the investment: “The plan to improve productivity and efficiency in all our industrial complexes is delivering results, and the Plaza Huincul complex is proof.”

At the same time, Marín emphasized that the works were completed in record time, without any type of incident and meeting the highest safety standards.

In just 26 months, YPF managed to complete the construction of a new furnace and a naphtha stabilizer, which are essential for increasing shale oil processing capacity. Currently, 80% of the crude oil processed at the complex comes from the Vaca Muerta formation. In addition, a new Topping gas compressor was installed, which will reduce operating costs and improve the overall efficiency of the system.

The total investment in these projects reached 55 million dollars, making it the most significant in the last 50 years for this plant. As part of the modernization process, Marín also announced that the refinery will have its own state-of-the-art intelligent monitoring center, similar to the one already operating in other industrial complexes of the company.

The Plaza Huincul Industrial Complex plays a key role in the energy supply of the south of the country. It produces Súper and Infinia gasoline, Grade 2 diesel, and aviation fuels, which are distributed throughout the Patagonian region. It also houses Argentina's main methanol plant, with the capacity to supply both the domestic and international markets.

This transformation reinforces YPF's commitment to national energy development and consolidates the strategic role of Vaca Muerta in Argentina's current and future energy matrix.
