TSE authority did not rule out the possibility of enabling former dictator Evo Morales.

Óscar Hassenteufel indicated that Morales's authorization may be in the hands of the extended magistrates of the TCP

The vice president of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), Óscar Hassenteufel, confirmed in an interview that this entity will determine if Evo Morales will be a presidential candidate. Although he emphasized that the decision will be made by the TSE, he also acknowledged that it could lead to a constitutional action. This opens the door to a possible intervention by the Plurinational Constitutional Tribunal (TCP). In this institution, magistrates whose extension has been questioned by political and legal sectors are currently serving. The statement raised alarms about a possible new attempt to enable the former dictator, despite existing rulings that disqualify him for exceeding the term limit. The possibility of the case reaching the TCP has not been ruled out by Hassenteufel, who stated that if the TSE's decision is challenged, a constitutional action could be filed. This would imply that the extended magistrates, deemed illegitimate by several actors, could end up resolving a key issue for the country's political future. The potential enabling of Morales would test the independence of the highest judicial authorities, already heavily criticized for their illegal tenure since the beginning of this year.
