Operative in several provinces investigates more than 50 officials for manipulation of invoices and alleged million-dollar damage to the State

The Ministry of the Interior carried out raids on offices of the National Electricity Corporation (CNEL) in several provinces of the country, as part of an investigation into an alleged corruption network linked to the manipulation of electricity sheets.
The interventions were carried out in Azuay, Santa Elena and Guayas, as part of a process that investigates a scheme that would have operated for more than 11 years in the national electricity system.
According to the first investigations, more than 50 officials are involved in altering billing systems to benefit third parties through irregular charges.

The authorities estimate that the economic damage could reach USD 300 million, while in 2025 alone, irregularities of more than USD 27 million would have been detected without technical support

Interior Minister John Reimberg noted that some of those involved would have unjustified high assets and that the investigation is continuing to determine the full scope of the case.
President Daniel Noboa stated that it is a structure that would have operated for more than a decade, directly affecting the State and the users of the electricity service.
