Daniel Noboa's tour strengthened alliances with China, Spain, and Italy

The Ecuadorian president will meet with Xi Jinping, King Felipe, and Italian authorities

President Daniel Noboa undertook a key international tour for Ecuadorian foreign policy. The visit included high-level meetings in China, Spain, and Italy, consolidating Ecuador's role as a balanced diplomatic actor among global powers. Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld confirmed a luncheon and bilateral meeting with Xi Jinping on June 27. These types of meetings strengthen the country's position in multilateral spaces and open new possibilities for foreign trade, cooperation in infrastructure, and technology transfer.

The presidential delegation departed on Sunday, June 22, for China, where it focused on trade issues, sustainable development, investment in clean energy, and strategic cooperation. During the stay, meetings were held with business leaders from the technology sector, as well as meetings with representatives of Asian financial institutions.

Subsequently, on June 29, he participated in an official dinner with King Felipe VI of Spain, where he also maintained a parallel agenda with leaders from the Spanish business and political sectors, with the goal of strengthening bilateral investments. The tour concluded in Italy, where Noboa sought to strengthen economic ties with the local government, in addition to visiting centers for technological innovation and renewable energy.

According to Minister José de la Gasca, "it's not easy to secure a meeting with Xi Jinping," which reinforces the diplomatic weight Ecuador has gained in recent months. The opening toward China was carried out without breaking the bond with the United States, maintaining a sovereign, balanced, and pragmatic international policy. Noboa had already demonstrated this global vision during his first 15-day presidential tour in 2023, where he visited six strategic countries. This continuity reaffirms a consistent long-term approach.

The publication The Economist highlighted that Noboa "doesn't rule out cooperation with China" despite the rapprochement with Washington. This multipolar approach represented a mature and strategic management that aims to position Ecuador as a reliable country for trade and investment. The presidential agenda reflected an active, modern, and results-oriented diplomacy. In addition, it opened opportunities in sectors such as logistics, international education, and food security, areas prioritized by the current government.

With this tour, Daniel Noboa reaffirmed his government's commitment to a smart foreign policy, oriented toward economic development and the building of strong alliances. In a world marked by geopolitical tensions, Ecuador chose dialogue and cooperation as the path to progress, betting on an active presence on the international stage and the diversification of its strategic allies.
