Minister Inés Manzano led an energy plan to prevent blackouts
The Ministry of Energy made progress on key projects to guarantee electricity supply and promote nuclear energy
Minister of Energy Inés Manzano assumed leadership of a strategic energy agenda after being ratified by President Daniel Noboa. Among the main challenges, she highlighted the implementation of nuclear energy and the increase in oil production.
The president announced the submission of a nuclear energy lawto reduce dependence on unstable sources and generate clean electricity.
As a first step, Ecuador has already signed an agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency and aims to generate up to 600 megawatts with compact technology. In the oil sector, the goal is to reverse the 5% decline recorded in 2025 and boost production with new wells and a refinery in Santa Elena.
Meanwhile, Petroamazonas announced a campaign to add 12,000 barrels per day in order to recover export capacity.

The electricity sector also requires immediate attention: 500 megawatts were added thanks to urgent maintenance, and there are plans to add 300 megawatts annually in renewables. However, experts warn that if key projects are not completed, the country could face a deficit of more than 1,000 megawatts in September.
Other fronts include the opening of the mining cadastre to curb illegal mining and the design of a plan to target the diesel subsidy without affecting exporters or vulnerable sectors. With these measures, the Government seeks to consolidate a modern, safe, and efficient energy policy.
Inés Manzano's management at the head of the Ministry of Energy reinforces the technical objectives of Daniel Noboa's Government. With bold decisions such as promoting nuclear energy and modernizing the hydrocarbon sector, the country is moving toward a sustainable and sovereign energy matrix.
