The president of the Oversight and Political Control Commission of the National Assembly will be legislator Ferdinan Álvarez Zambrano. In less than two years, he went from being a marginal actor of Correísmo to a strategic ally of the officialdom led by president Daniel Noboa.
The lawyer from Guayaquil, with a master's degree in Procedural Law, was elected by the Parliament's plenary on the night of May 16 with the support of 78 votes. His appointment confirms the control of the National Democratic Action (ADN) bloc over one of the most relevant commissions of the Legislature.
Álvarez was an official of the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion (MIES) in 2017, and later held the general directorate of the National Institute of Popular and Solidarity Economy. After winning two elections with Correísmo, he broke ties with that movement due to personal differences with former Vice President Jorge Glas.
Since his departure from the Citizen Revolution, Álvarez has established himself as a figure close to the Executive and was registered in ADN as deputy caucus coordinator, a position held by assembly member Valentina Centeno. The vice presidency of the commission was assumed by Nathaly Morillo, also from the official bloc.
