A trinational delegation evaluated border security between Ecuador and Peru

Daniel Noboa's government strengthened cooperation with the United States and Peru to curb transnational crime

A mission made up of representatives from Ecuador, Peru, and the United States toured the border areas of Huaquillas and Aguas Verdes. During the meeting, Daniel Noboa's government reaffirmed its commitment to combating organized crime with a regional approach.

The delegation inspected both official and informal crossings, identifying 137 illegal points used for smuggling, human trafficking, and drugs. This joint effort will enable the development of a bilateral action plan with technical support from the United States.

Migration, police, and defense officials from both countries assessed the limited presence of personnel, such as in Aguas Verdes where only 10 police officers guard a high-risk area. Ecuador reiterated the urgency of increasing operational capacity with international support.

The management of the Ecuadorian executive succeeded in reactivating inter-institutional coordination, which will include shared technology, joint patrols, and satellite surveillance. Washington confirmed its support through military and logistical assistance.

This effort is part of the state of internal armed conflict in effect since January 2024, when President Noboa declared the mafias to be terrorist groups. Multinational cooperation will allow for decisive action while respecting sovereignty.

Noboa's government has transformed the border strategy into a state policy. This visit is the prelude to logistical and intelligence projects that will consolidate the area as a regional security hub.
