The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), the radical left wing of the Democratic Party, secured key victories in the midterm elections in the United States this Tuesday, ensuring the entry of a new wave of communist leaders into the Capitol. At least half a dozen candidates backed by the group won seats in the House of Representatives.
The newly elected legislators will join the lower chamber's bloc that already includes prominent figures from the Democratic left such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib. In light of this advance, the New York Post compiled past statements from the winners and reviewed their backgrounds of extremism.
Darializa Avila Chevalier, who won the Democratic primary in New York's 13th District against longtime Congressman Adriano Espaillat, gained notoriety for her outbursts on social media. From an account that has since been deleted, she expressed support for defunding the police, completely dissolving law enforcement and prisons, and eliminating borders.
From that account, she also advocated for the expropriation of private property and the nationalization of strategic industries. She praised Marxist ideology and communist figures like Vladimir Lenin, in addition to having criticized then-Vice President Kamala Harris in 2021 for warning migrants not to cross into the U.S. from the Mexico border.
Claire Valdez, assemblywoman and winner in New York's seventh district, liked a post celebrating the terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas against Israel on October 7, 2023. The newly elected representative also granted an interview to streamer Lilan Beyer, whose account was suspended for labeling Jews as a "demonic ethnicity." Additionally, Valdez advocates for the total abolition of ICE.
