Countries around the world will reimburse the United States for the cost of helping oil flow through the Strait of Hormuz and keeping this maritime passage free from the aggressions of the Iranian regime, declared President Donald Trump on Monday.
"Oil is flowing through the Strait of Hormuz. Countries around the world, which have not helped us at all, should and will reimburse the United States of America when this false conflagration is over," the president stated. "We are doing much more for others than for ourselves, and we have been doing it for generations!" he added.
U.S. military operations providing escort to tankers navigating through Hormuz have allowed the number of barrels of oil that the world requires per day to keep flowing, while largely preventing Iran from exporting its own crude.
Iran effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz at the beginning of the war, disrupting a route that in peacetime handled about one-fifth of global oil and gas flows. But thanks to the naval operation ordered by Trump in June, Tehran's control over the waterway has evaporated.
