Trump intensified the fight against the terrorist group after blocking cryptocurrency funds and dismantling its digital recruitment infrastructure

The U.S. Department of Justice announced a major operation against Hamas that resulted in the seizure of over $560,000 in cryptocurrencies intended to finance the terrorist group and dismantle part of its digital infrastructure used for fundraising and recruiting new members.

The operation represents a new blow against the financial and propaganda networks of the terrorist group and reflects the strategy of President Donald Trump's administration to use all available tools to pursue terrorist organizations and block resources that may contribute to their military operations.

The federal prosecutor for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro, reported that U.S. authorities managed to directly intervene funds that, according to the investigation, were intended for Hamas's military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades. Pirro described the operation as a severe blow against international terrorism and warned that Washington will continue to pursue the networks used by the organization.

''Their networks are not secure, their cryptocurrencies are vulnerable, and we will not stop until their capacity to wage war is defeated once and for all,'' Pirro stated when announcing the results of the investigation.

In addition to the financial seizure, U.S. authorities managed to take control of servers and internet domains linked to Hamas's recruitment and fundraising structure. The goal was to disrupt the organization's ability to use digital platforms as tools to attract supporters, organize fundraising campaigns, and channel money towards their activities.

Federal court documents cited in the investigation indicate that investigators identified an encrypted chat group claiming to be affiliated with Hamas. From that space, supporters were directed to a fundraising website and to various cryptocurrency addresses used to receive donations.

The use of cryptocurrencies represented a particularly attractive avenue for terrorist groups due to the possibility of conducting international transfers without relying on traditional financial mechanisms. However, the U.S. investigation demonstrated that these operations can also be tracked using intelligence tools and digital transaction analysis.

Prosecutors indicated that federal agents used information provided by human sources at different times in 2025, including March 25, June 25, and October 10, to identify, trace, and ultimately seize approximately $560,000 in digital assets that were intended for the Al-Qassam Brigades.

The FBI played a crucial role in the second part of the operation. Through human sources, investigators identified servers and domains used by the network linked to Hamas. Once authorities managed to control that digital infrastructure, they were able to disrupt the operation of funding channels and detect cryptocurrency transfers that apparently were intended for the terrorist organization.

One of the most relevant elements of the investigation was the discovery of information related to thousands of people who attempted to contact the terrorist group online with the intention of donating money or seeking mechanisms to make contributions.

Pirro highlighted that U.S. authorities now have the names and identities of thousands of individuals who attempted to provide funds to the group. This information will be incorporated into ongoing anti-terrorism investigations.

The Department of Justice noted that the data obtained could become an additional tool to identify financial support networks and potential collaborators of Hamas. In this way, the operation was not limited to blocking funds but also allowed for the acquisition of potentially useful information for future investigations and legal actions.

The operation comes amid growing concern in Washington about the international networks used by terrorist organizations to obtain resources through digital mechanisms. Hamas's ability to leverage internet platforms, encrypted messaging systems, and cryptocurrencies has led U.S. authorities to strengthen their efforts to detect and cut these funding sources.

Authorities made it clear that the investigation continues and that the information obtained from the operation could lead to new actions against individuals involved in financing Hamas. Washington's message is that neither cryptocurrencies nor digital platforms provide a safe haven for those attempting to finance terrorist organizations.
