The United States attacked positions of the Islamic regime in southern Iran to protect its troops from growing threats posed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The operation was confirmed by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) on Monday night. The report indicates that two Revolutionary Guard vessels laying mines in the critical Strait of Hormuz were attacked.
CENTCOM spokesperson Captain Tim Hawkins stated that the attacks were carried out "to protect our troops from the threats posed by Iranian forces", while authorities insisted that the United States continues to exercise restraint amid a fragile truce between the two warring nations.
"The targets included missile launch sites and Iranian vessels attempting to lay mines. U.S. Central Command continues to defend our forces while maintaining restraint during the ongoing ceasefire", Hawkins detailed.

Trump urges Arab leaders to join the Abraham Accords
After reports of the attacks last night, explosions were heard in several regions near the Strait of Hormuz, including a blast in the key port city of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran. The sound of bombs was also heard on the islands of Sirik and Jask, close to the strategic waterway.
President Donald Trump noted on Monday morning that diplomatic talks with Iran were progressing. However, Tehran seems to have been playing a dangerous game, testing limits while U.S. negotiators sought a possible agreement.
"Negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran are going very well! It will either be a Great Agreement for all or no Agreement at all —back to the battlefield and shooting, but bigger and stronger than ever— and nobody wants that!", Trump declared on his social media.
In the same phone conversation, the president expressed to the leaders of the Arab countries in the region his intention for them to join the Abraham Accords. "The Abraham Accords have proven to be, for the involved countries (the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, Sudan, and Kazakhstan), a financial, economic, and social boom, even during this time of conflict and war, with current members never suggesting to leave or even take a pause," Trump considered.
