Federico Leicht, his interview on Bajo La Lupa with Queimada
'This is serious, and the work of the grassroots is to uphold the ideas of freedom.'
Journalist, writer, and ideologue of the Plataforma Por la Libertad (PPL), Federico Leicht, returned to the Bajo la Lupa studios to talk with Esteban Queimada and provide an update on the new right-wing political project in Uruguay.
The new Uruguayan right
Two months after its launch, Leicht stated that the Plataforma is growing strongly and consolidating itself as the only real alternative to the left. "The Plataforma brings together liberals, libertarians, sovereigntists, patriots, and conservatives who currently have nowhere to go. In Uruguay, there is no representation of the real right. We are here to fill that space," he said.
He also clarified that this is not an imitation of Argentine mileísmo. "This is not a copy. In the national context, what we are here to do is promote the ideas of freedom," he explained. He emphasized that this new political tool responds to a concrete need: the lack of an authentic right in the Uruguayan political spectrum.

He also stated that PPL is at the opposite end of the dynamics used by traditional party structures: "Anyone who wants to come and reproduce the crap from traditional parties is not welcome. This is a clean political tool."

The false cultural battle
Throughout the interview, Leicht harshly criticized the political center. "They screwed us over, they destroyed us... We have to go after these opportunists who come out talking about the cultural battle," he said, directly pointing to members of the Republican Coalition such as Sebastián Da Silva and Pablo Mieres.
"Our immediate enemy is Corea del Medio. We have to take Corea del Medio and then face the left. The deodorant-wearing leftists are just as much our enemies as the orc leftists," he said.

The goal transcends us
Leicht insisted that the Plataforma prioritizes ideas, not personalities. "The essential question is: are we campaigning for people or for ideas?" he asked. "The backroom politics are over; you are voting for an idea, not for people," he added. He also pointed to a more transcendent vision of political action: "We have to understand that the goal transcends us. We are so individualistic that we have that capacity."
In that sense, he highlighted the commitment of the activists: "It has been two months since PPL was created, gentlemen. The pride I feel when I see all those profiles with PPL's tero. It's unbelievable. The pride I feel when I know there is a core group of activists who are working hard and who will have a streaming program that will be a hit. That is the seedbed."
According to the journalist, political work must go beyond mere willpower. "Willpower is useless. What matters is the work, the study, the understanding, and having contact," he asserted. He also stated that each interested person must take the initiative: "If you want to be part of the Plataforma, you have to approach us. We are libertarians; we are not going to come looking for you. You have to join at plataformaporlalibertad.org.uy."
