Finally the statements by Fabián Berlanga came true: Argentine soccer will be paralyzed from Thursday, March 5 to Sunday, March 8. In an Executive Committee meeting held this Monday, the clubs in the Professional League solved by unanimous decision to suspend matchday 9 of the Apertura Tournament and to extend the measure to the rest of the divisions, in rejection of the complaint filed by Agencia de Recaudación y Control Aduanero (ARCA) against the Asociación del Fútbol Argentino (AFA).
The decision became known after a meeting in which the directors analyzed the legal situation involving authorities of the governing body. The case originated from a filing made in December by the tax collection agency, in which it is maintained that AFA allegedly failed to pay income tax, VAT, and social security contributions during different months of 2024 and 2025 for a total of more than 19,000 million pesos.
AFA released a statement in which it rejected the accusations and asserted that "it doesn't have any enforceable debt for the tax obligations that have been taken as the basis for the complaint filed by ARCA". In addition, it maintained that "the voluntary payment of these tax obligations was made before their due date" and that the claim has already been submitted to the Court of Appeals, where it remains pending resolution.
