From one giant to another: Luciano Vietto is about to become a reinforcement for San Lorenzo after his departure from Racing

San Lorenzo is very close to finalizing a major signing in this transfer window. Luciano Vietto accepted the offer that the Azulgrana board presented to him and is one step away from becoming Ciclón's new reinforcement, after becoming a free agent when he did not renew his contract with Racing.

In the last few hours, the Boedo club moved forward with a formal offer that was well received by the forward, who gave his approval because he was convinced by the sporting project and the role that he will have in the team coached by Damián Ayude. Although there are still administrative matters pending, a verbal agreement already exists between the parties.

It should be clarified that the 32-year-old forward also had been approached by other Argentine soccer teams such as Argentinos Juniors, Talleres and Estudiantes de La Plata, in addition to Colo Colo. However, the Azulgrana proposal ended up tipping the scales.

According to reports, the contract would be for one year, until December 2026, with a fixed salary and performance bonuses already agreed upon. From Cuervo, officials insist that the figures fit the club's economic reality and that the salary will be below that of several current players in the squad, in line with the strategy of signing free agents or loan players.

In sporting terms, the agreement appears beneficial for both parties. San Lorenzo would add an attacking leader to spearhead the offense, while Vietto will have the chance to relaunch his career and regain consistent playing time, after a final season at Racing marked by injuries. Despite that, he had started at a good level and was part of the team that won the Recopa Sudamericana against Botafogo.

If no issues arise, in the coming days the striker will undergo a medical examination and will then join the first team squad. If the deal is completed, he will be the third free signing for Ciclón in this window, after Mauricio Cardillo and Mathías De Ritis, in addition to the loans of Gregorio Rodríguez and Gonzalo Ábrego, which reflects the plan with which the board is seeking to strengthen the team.

In his two spells at Academia, Vietto played 112 official matches, in which he scored 26 goals, provided 8 assists, and won two titles: the 2024 Copa Sudamericana and the 2025 Recopa Sudamericana. During the 2025 season, he took part in 29 matches, accumulated 1,298 minutes on the field, and recorded 5 goals and 3 assists.
