Argentina National Tennis Team will play in the country again after two and a half years. The draw held this Thursday at the headquarters of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in London determined that the team led by Javier Frana will face Türkiye at home in September, in the Davis Cup World Group I.
The tie will be played on 18 and 19 or 19 and 20 of that month, at a venue yet to be confirmed, and it will put at stake a place in the 2027 Qualifiers of the main team competition in world tennis. Argentina started as the second seed, so it knew that its opponent would be a non-seeded nation. The ball determined Türkiye and the draw also favored the Albiceleste team with home advantage.
Argentina vuelve a jugar en el país tras dos años
This way, the national team will end a long streak of appearances away from home. The last time it played at home was at the beginning of 2024, when, under Guillermo Coria's leadership, it defeated Kazakhstan 3-2 in Rosario. Since then, it has accumulated away fixtures, including the recent setback against South Korea in Busan.
As for the opponent, the Turkish team occupies 33rd place in the ITF nations ranking, while Argentina is in tenth place. The European team doesn't have tennis players inside the top 100 in either singles or doubles, although it has Cem Ilkel, who reached as high as 144th in the ATP ranking. Its best racket at present is Mert Alkaya, ranked 375th.
In the head-to-head record there is only one precedent between the two countries. 62 years ago, in 1964, Argentina prevailed in Istanbul convincingly by 5-0 in its only meeting. Since this is a tie prior to 1970, home advantage had to be determined by draw this time.

The tie will be played in a best-of-five matches format. The series will start with two singles on the first day, followed by the doubles match and two reverse singles on the following day, all in a best-of-three sets with tie-break format. With the backing of its crowd and against an opponent without elite figures, Argentina will seek to take a key step toward returning to the elite of the competition.
