Bootlicker: Boca's Deputy Secretary asked the players to stand up for Riquelme
The Xeneize leader spoke about the team's performance and, despite the terrible results, supported the president in his institutional work
The deputy secretary of Boca, Alejandro Veiga, made statements in a journalistic interview in which he supported the leadership of Juan Román Riquelme, while he questioned the professional squad and urged them to "face up" to the current sports situation the team is going through.
"Our president has supported the players when they were criticized and scrutinized. The president always stood up for the squad and it's time for them to stand up for the president. Boca is a very particular club: it plays poorly and the president is blamed," the official expressed on the program "Boca de Selección".
These statements come less than a day after Boca's tough elimination at the hands of Independiente, at La Bombonera, in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Torneo Apertura. This situation is compounded by the constant defeats in the classics and the early exit from the Copa Libertadores.

In that line, Veiga highlighted the president's role in difficult times. "The president is intelligent and if he has to change something, he will do it. He takes note of everything that happens. He is there in the box for everyone to see. He took responsibility for the reproaches alone in the box," he added.
"You won't see him in a shopping mall, you won't see him partying in Miami. Román is working 24 hours for Boca. It can go well or badly, he is not infallible, but he takes responsibility. We must support the president and stand up for him," he elaborated.
Later, he again criticized the professional squad: "The team on the field doesn't represent me. They say Fabra can't play anymore and the president supports him. They say Pol Fernández can't play anymore and the president supports him."
He concluded with a forceful message: "It's time for them to support him on the field, not with statements and demagogic attitudes." This last criticism also alludes to the episode with Marcos Rojo, who missed a training session over the weekend claiming a feverish condition, which is why coach Mariano Herrón decided to leave him out of the team.
